Why I'm Betting on Open Source

Sep 13

Jumping into the world of open-source by contributing to a project as massive as 🤗/transformers (with over 150k stars) was both intimidating and incredibly rewarding. It fundamentally shifted how I view software development. In a traditional academic or corporate setting, your work often stays within the walls of the institution. In open source, your code is immediately exposed to a global community. This forces a higher standard of quality, documentation, and collaboration. You're not just solving a problem; you're building a tool that thousands of other developers will rely on. My work with 'hugging-science' reinforced this. The goal isn't just to publish a paper, but to make cutting-edge AI for science accessible and usable for everyone. This philosophy of democratization is, in my opinion, the most powerful force in technology today. It accelerates innovation at an unprecedented scale. Contributing to this ecosystem, even in a small way, feels like adding a brick to a cathedral of collective knowledge.
